Community Engagement

Effective community engagement is an important driver behind Toronto Central LHIN’s implementation of our 2010-2013 Integrated Health Service Plan (IHSP-2). The Toronto Central LHIN has a diverse population and effective engagement requires a creative approach that not only promotes equity and reflects our community’s diversity, but also builds on the strengths of the leaders our health service provider organizations and our community.  We are constantly seeking new ways to expand and deepen our reach into our diverse health care provider, patient/client and resident communities, including Aboriginal, Francophone, ethno-cultural neighbourhoods, and marginalized groups in our LHIN.

Annual Community Engagement Plan

As a way to keep our stakeholders and communities better informed and involved, the LHINs are all publishing annual plans for community engagement.  This following document outlines the Toronto Central LHIN’s Community Engagement Plan for 2011/12.

Community Engagement Toolkit for Health Service Providers and the Toronto Central LHIN

TC LHIN-HSP CE ToolkitIn 2010, The Toronto Central LHIN convened a Task Group of representatives from provider organizations across all sectors and areas of the LHIN to advise and work with the LHIN to develop a community engagement strategy for the LHIN.

The group’s first task was to clearly define the roles and expectations of the LHIN and health service providers regarding community engagement and to develop tools to support community engagement efforts in the LHIN.

The Community Engagement Toolkit for Health Service Providers and the Toronto Central LHIN outlines the roles, accountabilities and expectations regarding community engagement, and provides a number of tools to assist HSPs and the LHIN in their community engagement efforts.

14-LHIN Community Engagement Guidelines and Toolkit

Local decision making is the model that the LHINs are built on, and one that values the input of community members, health care professionals, and stakeholders to inform our planning and decision making processes.

The following community engagement guidelines give the 14 LHINs consistent tools for planning and evaluating community engagement.

Get Involved

Community Engagement drives almost everything that the Toronto Central LHIN does. The LHIN’s plans, decision-making and actions are all informed by the feedback we receive, and the understanding gleaned, from our diverse communities, including health service providers, patients, clients, local residents, and health care professionals. One of the main ways the LHIN involves its communities and stakeholders is through advisory committees, groups and panels.
