Building on Ontario’s e-health framework
The provincial context
In March 2009, the Ontario government released a provincial e-health strategy. The strategy’s goal is to use information technology to improve health care delivery, increase patient safety, reduce ER wait times and create a more effective health care system. Technology investments will include electronic health records and an online diabetes registry where patients can get information and tools to help them manage their disease.
The Toronto Central LHIN perspective
The Toronto Central LHIN is a strong proponent of e-health’s potential to improve health services. In 2007, the Toronto Central and Central LHINs joined forces to create a joint e-health strategy to improve health care in their local areas.
